NBA Game of the Day – March 23rd
The Denver Nuggets (45-25) are on the road on Monday night and they’ll be going against the Phoenix Suns (38-31) in a Western Conference clash that is sure to be one of the most offensively-charged games this entire month.
With the sports betting total listed at 237 points, it’s safe to say that both of these squads will find ways to put the ball in the hoop. The Nuggets are averaging 103.3 points per game this season while the Suns come in at 108.7 but there is more then meets the eye to Phoenix’s number of points scored. For the better part of the season the Suns were trying a new, slower offense but their coach, Terry Porter, was fired and they went back to the run-and-gun offense they have utilized in recent years that has them averaging 125 points per game over their last 5 contests.
The home team in this series has won 9 of the last 10 matchups including twice this season with a 119-113 Denver overtime win and a 108-101 Phoenix victory last time these two squads were on this court. Each team has 5 point spread covers over the last 10 meetings while the over has been the correct play in 7 of those games. Denver has an 18-17 over/under record on the road while Phoenix comes in at 19-16 in favor of the over when playing at home.
Both teams are fairly healthy injury-wise with Denver center Steven Hunter and Phoenix center Amare Stoudemire out for the season while Phoenix guard Leandro Barbosa out until mid-April with a hyperextended left knee.
The big news lately out of Denver was guard J.R. Smith’s performance since recently getting promoted to starter after coming off the bench for nearly the entire season. Smith is only averaging 14.4 points per game this season but he was a starter in the Nuggets’ last game (a 116-105 victory for Washington) and he went off for 40 points on 15-of-23 shooting. Smith, who bypassed college basketball to make the jump directly from high school, also contributed 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the victory.
The Nuggets have been fairly mundane on the road this season with an 18-17 mark on the year while Phoenix has a 22-13 record while at home and that is a large reason why the Suns are favored by 3.5 points for this game. Phoenix is the more efficient offense but the Nuggets have a slight edge in defense, turnovers, rebounding, and bench productivity this season.
This game should be extremely exciting if you like lots of scoring and you won’t want to miss this Monday night NBA game where fireworks are on the forecast.
