NHL Playoff Preview for Thursday
Added on Apr 17, 2009 by sbworld in
Philadelphia Flyers (44-28-5-6) at Pittsburgh Penguins (46-28-3-6)
The favorite has covered the NHL betting odds in 20 of the last 26 matchups while Philadelphia has only taken 2 of the last 16 games between these two teams that were played in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins had no issues winning in the first game with a 4-1 final score and Pittsburgh has taken 7 of the last 10 games between these teams including a 5-2 record this season. The over has been the right pick in 5 of the last 10 with the under hitting 4 times and a push in 1 of the games.
Pittsburgh is favored at a line of -170 with a goals-scored total at 5.5 at most places although some 6’s are showing up. Tracked bettors at most websites are showing they like the Penguins are roughly a 70% consensus and this line has not moved much since it opened up.
Carolina Hurricanes (45-31-2-5) at New Jersey Devils (52-27-2-2)
We here at SportsBettingWorld.com see this as the best game on Friday’s slate of NHL playoff action and an overtime or shootout thriller could very well be a possibility even though the Devils had no issues winning 4-1 in the series opener.
This has been a close series in recent history with New Jersey winning 6 of the last 10 although Carolina does have 2 of their 4 wins over that stretch here on the Devils’ home ice. 4 games have gone under, 4 have gone over, and 2 have pushed on the total over the course of those 10 games.
The home-team Devils opened at -150 and that line really has not moved much since it came out despite tracked bettors liking New Jersey at a similar 70% ratio to the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia game. The total for this potentially explosive playoff game is set at 5 goals.
Whichever team was at home has won 7 of the last 8 meetings between these teams with the favorite getting the outright victory in 4 of the last 5.
St. Louis Blues (41-32-4-6) at Vancouver Canucks (46-27-3-7)
Despite being favored at roughly the same 70% as the other home favorites, the line on the Canucks has been steamed down. Opening at -185 at most online sportsbooks but not currently sitting at -180, Vancouver is still a heavy favorite but some people apparently think the Blues are worth a decent sized bet. The total for this one is listed at 5 and has seen minimal movement.
Vancouver struggled in the first game of this series with 2-1 victory but has won 7 of the last 10 games against the Blues with St Louis only having 1 win over their last 7 trips into Vancouver. The home team is 26-10-2 over the last 38 matchups in this series with the over winning 5 times, the under 3 times, and the total pushing twice over the last 10 meetings.
