Mobile sports
betting refers to placing a bet over a wireless
device and is quickly becoming one of the
most popular ways to get money down on
whatever you plan on wagering on.
Wireless PDAs and cell phones are the
two most popular way to mobile gamble and
many sportsbooks like Bookmaker.com allow
users to not only place sports bets while on
the go but also wager on a horse or throw
down some cash in their casino no matter
where you might be (assuming your phone
network is in range, of course).
Originally the bets
were placed on mobile phones via simple text
messaging but times have changed and now not
only can you place your bets with a look
similar to what your home desktop would show
but tech-savvy gamblers can actually watch
live sporting events or at the very least
get live updates nearly as fast as the game
itself takes place.
This mobile gaming
market is one that is expected to grow in
absolutely massive leaps and bounds over the
next few years. Companies
Juniper, Gartner, and Seymour Pierce all
predict rapid growth in the mobile gaming
sector through 2010 and the current estimate
value of the market space is supposed to hit
nearly $20 billion dollars within a year, if
not sooner.
The mobile gaming
industry has been growing at a rate of 35%
over the last 4 years Estimates indicate the
industry worth grew from $5 million dollars
in 2004 to $1 billion dollars by the time
2006 rolled around.
According to various
online reports, the Asia-Pacific region is
expected to contribute the largest share of
revenues with 39% while Europe is right on
their tails with 37%. The
United States is expected to provide most of
the remaining revenue from the mobile gaming
market. The largest
revenue betting option is predicted to be
lotteries with sports betting followed by
casino gambling not far behind.
If the industry is
capable of that incredible growth in such a
short period of time and the prediction of
increased growth holds steady, this is going
to be a mainstay for every offshore
sportsbook in the upcoming years.
Bookmaker.com has a lead on most of
the offshore sportsbooks thanks to an early
start and there are going to be innovations
in the upcoming years that will just blow
people’s minds. Just a
few years ago no one had even thought about
placing a bet over a cell phone but the
industry may eventually take over internet
gambling with most phones nowadays being
able to access the internet the same way a
bulky laptop would. The
sky is the limit and it’s going to be a
fun ride for us sports bettors, casino
players, and horse track handicappers that
will be able to place a bet while sitting in
a cubicle at work or while watching a
football game and having a beer.
