In nighttime baseball betting action we’ll look at an American League West matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox.  White Sox have recovered nicely from a slow start, winning 18 of their 26 games in the month of June and climbing back into the divisional race just 1.5 games out of first place.  Kansas City is in 4th place, 9.5 games off the lead.

Chicago White Sox (Peavy) at Kansas City Royals (Greinke)
June 30, 5:10 PM Pacific

Good pitching matchup between the White Sox’s Jake Peavy and the Royals Zach Greinke.  Greinke has the better YTD ERA (3.72) and has an even better 2.62 ERA in his last three starts, but that hasn’t translated into wins for the Royals.  Kansas City is a woeful 4-12 in Greinke’s starts including 2-7 at home.  Much like the White Sox as a team, Jake Peavy was in bad form when the year started but he’s looked sensational of late.  His YTD ERA is a pedestrian 4.71 and the White Sox have won 8 of his 15 starts this year.  In his last three starts, however, Peavy has allowed just two earned runs for a 0.78 ERA and the White Sox have won all three.  His last two starts have been 3 hit shutouts with Peavy ringing up 16 strikeouts in 16 innings of work.

Greinke has been a favorite of baseball betting experts throughout his career, but he’s become overvalued.  Based on recent form, Peavy is the much more dominant pitcher at the moment and playing on the much better team.  White Sox have won 8 of 10 while Kansas City has lost 6 of 10.  Sox are 20-17 +5.3 units on the road this year, while the Royals are 17-22 -3.5 units at home.  Peavy’s team has won 4 of his 5 career starts against KC, while the Royals have lost 12 of his 17 career starts against the White Sox.  With Peavy rounding in to the dominant form he’s capable of, we’ll gladly back the White Sox as a road underdog.

Bet Chicago WS (Peavy) +110 over Kansas City (Greinke)
