There will be a little more activity at the sportsbooks on Tuesday as the NBA returns to work from the All Star break and with a good amount of march madness betting opportunities coming up and Olympic coverage (assuming you can figure out when NBC is actually airing the various events and on which of their networks).  We’ve done well with Big 12 conference action of late including a nice winner yesterday on Texas A&M, so we’ll take a look at another opportunity there as Texas Tech travels to Baylor:

Our fundamental premise in betting the Big 12 conference action has been pretty simple–look for opportunities to play on good teams getting points.  And that’s exactly what we’ll do on Tuesday night as Texas Tech plays Baylor with the Red Raiders a +11 underdog.  In theory, we’d rather find good home underdogs like A&M yesterday but getting so many points this should work as well.   Both teams have fairly even overall records, with Baylor 19-5 and Tech 16-8.  Baylor has been better in conference play (6-4 vs. 4-6) and is nationally ranked.  The national ranking could explain the public perception that the Bears are an overwhelmingly superior team and the resulting pointspread reflects that.

Both teams have been profitable against the pointspread this year, with Baylor 11-6 ATS in lined games to Texas Tech’s 11-7 in lined games.  In fact, most of the situational ATS records are also similar.  Worth noting that Texas Tech has played Baylor tough  in the past few years–Bears have won 3 of the L4 meetings, but Texas Tech has covered the number in 3 of 4.  Same situation on Baylor’s home court, where the Bears have won two straight but Texas Tech covered in both.  Texas Tech won last year’s meeting at home by 7 points as +4′ underdogs.  Hard to see an 18 point turnaround in this game, so we’ve got to take the Red Raiders getting the points.

Bet Texas Tech +11 over Baylor
