The only week 4 college football game that pits two top-25 teams against each other will have the #13 Miami Hurricanes on the road against the #12 Virginia Tech Hokies.
Miami has been incredible this season and comes in with a 2-0 record after beating #18 Florida State and #14 Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes began the year as an unranked team but their play of late has fans reminded of the glory years that seem to have disappeared over the last 5 years.
Virginia Tech is 2-1 on the 2009 season after losing their opener to a strong top-5 Alabama Sooner squad. The Hokies have rebounded in recent weeks with two straight wins over Marshall and #19 Nebraska.

The betting odds show the Hurricanes favored by 3 despite being the road team. They have been steamed up throughout the week when the point spread originally was a pick ‘em. The total for Saturday’s game is at 47.5.
The big difference between this year’s Virginia Tech squad and the Hokies squads of the past 5 years has been the run defense. They’ve constantly been ranked amongst the best in the college football world but are giving up 200.3 rushing yards per game on 5.3 yards per carry through 3 games this season. It’s a big of a surprise since Virginia Tech has 7 guys back from their defense last year – including 3 defensive linemen – that allowed just 104 rushing yards per game.
Miami’s offense has flourished this season under sophomore Jacory Harris. Harris had a 12-7 ratio last year but comes into the Virginia Tech matchup with a stat line that reads 656 yards, 69.5%, and a 5-2 ratio. The young quarterback has been the biggest change in Miami’s team this year and will be on top of Heisman lists at season’s end if the Hurricanes go undefeated.
Virginia Tech has covered the point spread in 7 of the last 8 meetings with Miami with the underdog in this series covering 5 of the last 7 meetings.
