The Chicago Blackhawks improve to 7-5-1 on the NHL’s biggest night of the season, with 14 games being played around the NHL. The story was defense for the Chicago, and even though they were out shot again, Marty Turco put on a good performance. Turco only allowed one to slip by and saved 26.

“You’ve got to go through it sometimes to understand how it affects you and what you need to concentrate on,” Turco said of what some would call a soft goal. “I’m just at a position now that I want to be the guy for every game. Win or lose, it’s always about the next one.”

Troy Brouwer was finally able to get his first goal of the season, and many people were expecting it to come much sooner. Including Brouwer! “”It wasn’t so much a little monkey, it was a big gorilla on my back. I’m considered somewhat of a goal scorer, and I have to do that to be successful in this league.”

Coach Quennville moved Troy up to the first line to reward him for a big hit. “He had that big hit early, got a chance to move up with those guys and got rewarded as well, I think he earned the opportunity. He has to play with that bite in his game. Stuff was around the net and he finished it.” Coach Q also reiterated about how involved he would like Brouwer to be in the scoring, saying he needs to get in there. “Coming into the season we envisioned him being one of those guys.”

The defense played good, and especially when you consider that they are playing with out Dave Bolland. He is listed as Day-to day with an upper body injury. However, The Hawks keep saying that it is not the same back injury from last year that kept him out a good chunk of the season.
After a quiet first period, the Hawks got on the board first when Brouwer scored. Duncan Keith, with an assist from Brouwer and Kane, was able to score again early in the third period. Marek Zidlicky was able to score for the Wild, but that was the only point they were able to muster. Jake Dowell was able to get the last goal of the night with an empty netter to ice the game for the hawks. A good win after they were outplayed against the Oilers.

Minnesota Wild Coach Todd Richards said it best “you can tell why they are the Stanley Cup Champions, once they smell blood they keep coming.”
