Phil Baroni Released

In the ‘news everyone and their brother saw coming’ category, the UFC has officially released Phil Baroni. Baroni fought UFC newcomer Brad Tavares at UFC 125 in Las Vegas on New Years Day, and was knocked out cold in the first round by a kick and some quick hands by Tavares. In a tearful interview with MMAFighting.com after the event, Baroni said he was almost certain he would be cut by the UFC, but promised that he would continue fighting.

Baroni’s record, after Saturday, is 13-13, and after his second stint in the UFC he is now 3-7 in the Octagon. A twitter campaign erupted before the fight, that prompted Dana White to weasel the fight on the free Preliminary card on Ion Network, but unfortunately it didn’t go his way. Some fans attempted to get him another chance in the Octagon through the same measures, but obviously the attempt was for naught. He has a solid name, and a decent draw with MMA fans, and I expect him to get picked up soon by either Strikeforce, or maybe the MFC.

Henderson Vs. Pettis

UFC 129 is stacking up to be a great card, for the first MMA event in Toronto’s history, and it keeps getting better. The event is to be headlined by Georges St Pierre and Jake Shields, and their are rumors circling that Randy Couture will face Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida in the co-main event. That is a solid event right there, even with all filler, but the UFC has added Benson Henderson vs. Mark Bocek in a lightweight fight.

Benson Henderson will be fighting for the first time since losing his title to Anthony “Showtime” Pettis at WEC 53, the last event in the organizations history. The fight ended with Pettis jumping off the cage, and kicking Bendo in the face. A move that won Pettis the fight, and the title. He is now in line to fight the winner of Gray Maynard Vs Frankie Edgar 3. He was scheduled to fight them after UFC 125, but they fought to a split draw, and will now fight one more time. This will be Henderson’s first fight in the Octagon.

Anderson Silva’s Crib

Anderson Silva recently took the UFC to his house in Brazil to show off his home in an edition of UFC Cribs. The Current Middleweight Champion, and future UFC Hall Of Famer, showed off his belts, his UFC action figure collection, and even his junk food cabinet. Watch the whole thing right here:
