Baseball betting is in full swing at sportsbooks worldwide, and we’ll take a look at an American League matchup between the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.  Both teams have posted winning records in the early going, with both teams currently in second place in their respective divisions. They’ll face each other tonight at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Texas Rangers (C.J. Wilson) at New York Yankees (C.C. Sabathia)

A pair of southpaw starters lock up in this early season meeting between a couple of teams expected to contend for the crown in their respective divisions.  The Rangers have opened the season with a 5-4 record and are second in the AL West to the surprising Oakland A’s.  The Yankees are 6-3 and 1/2 game behind the Oakland A’s in the AL East.  Obviously whenever you’re dealing with the Yankees you’re dealing with one of the biggest ‘public’ teams in all of sports betting and you can often get value just by playing the other side.  That appears to be the case here–all you need to do is look at the breakdown of head to head meetings over the past few years and this is clearly demonstrated.  In 16 meetings since 2008, the teams have split them at 8-8.  9 of these games have been played at Yankee Stadium, with the Rangers holding a 5-4 edge.  With the inflated home prices assessed the Yankees, however, that 5-4 Rangers’ advantage is good for 5 units of profit!

Obviously Sabathia is well known as one of the best southpaws in baseball, but Wilson is no slouch and could have quite a reputation himself in a couple of years.  He looked excellent in his opening game against Toronto giving up only 1 ER on 5 hits in 7 innings of work.  Sabathia struggled in his season opener against Boston but was off the charts in his second start against Tampa Bay, pitching 7 2/3 innings of 1 hit, shutout ball.  Ultimately, however, all sports betting comes down to determining value and Texas is clearly the value side here.

Bet Texas Rangers (Wilson) +190 over New York  Yankees (Sabathia)
