Baseball betting front and center at sportsbooks for Sunday, and we’ll go back to the National League once again for a position in the San Diego Padres vs. Houston Astros series.  Padres have taken the first two games of the series as the Astros have slumped to 9-21 on the year.  Roy Oswalt’s pitching has been one of the few bright spots for Houston in 2010 and he gets the call today.

San Diego Padres (Kevin Correia) at Houston Astros (Roy Oswalt)

Roy Oswalt has pitched well this season, but it really hasn’t helped the Astros fortunes.  He’s got a 2.47 ERA, but Houston has lost 4 of his 6 starts.  His run support has been pitiful–in those 4 losses the Astros have scored a total of 5 runs.  We expect Oswalt to keep pitching well, but at this point the Astros are so bad it just gives us an opportunity to step in against them at a better price.  Astros averaging a measly 2.8 runs per game, and only 2.7 per game against RHP.  They’ve scored a single run so far in this series, and there’s little reason to expect their bats to wake up here.

Kevin Correia hasn’t put up great numbers this year, but San Diego has won 4 of his 6 assignments.  As was the case on Saturday with Jon Garland, however, Houston’s offense has a way of making average pitchers look like Cy Young candidates.   Until the prices catch up with how bad Houston is playing or they show some reversal of form, we’ll keep going against them.  San Diego has now won 10 of 15 head to head including 5 of the last 6 at Houston.

Bet San Diego (Correia) +110 over Houston (Oswalt)
