It was announced this week that frormer WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit suffered another setback in his career as he was forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout with Chris Lytle which would have taken place on UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch. The Jackson Submission Fighting product had been riding a three fight winning streak with his last two earning him Fight of the Night and Knockout of the Night honors against Rory MacDonald and Dan Hardy, respectively.

Things were looking up for the Albequerque fighter until this recent setback. As far as his opponent Lytle, the show must go on as he is now tabbed to square off against Brian Ebersole at the event that takes place at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. Early reports indicate that knee injury suffered by Condit will be sidelined for at least the next month.

Rather than scrapping the fight altogether, UFC President Dana White elected UFC newcomer Ebersole to fill the void and take on the MMA veteran in Lytle who boasts an official record of 30-17 with 23 of those wins coming by way of either TKO or submission. While the bout hasn’t officially been announced as a part of the card, there is a very strong possibility that it will come to fruition.

While the Lytle and Condit matchup certainly appears to be more competitive on paper, the replacement of fellow veteran Ebersole could make for an intriguing fight as he has over 60 professional bouts in the MMA arena with most of those wins coming via submission.

On the other hand Lytle has more than his share of wins coming by way of submission, yet both fighters are no strangers to winning via TKO. This one will stay on their feet until someone lands something significant. Then you can expect to see it taken to the mat where a war of jiu jitsu will break out for the remainder of the round with both Lytle and Ebersole looking to lock in a submission.

Even though Condit versus Lytle might have been the fight that most fans were anticipating make no mistake about it that Ebersole is coming with everything he has and will make it a dogfight. That along with the fact that Lytle has taken home honors for fight of the night on four occasions, one knockout of the night and two submissions of the night makes this fight one to see.

Take that into consideration along with the fact that the main event features Hilo’s own BJ Penn as he takes on AKA product Jon Fitch with supporting bouts such as Michael Bisping vs. Jorge Rivera and George Sotiropoulos vs Denis Siver and you have a card that is definitely worth checking out.
