Strikeforce Diaz Vs. Cyborg took place this Saturday in San Jose, California and aired live on Showtime. Another exiting event that featured two title defenses, and none of the fights going to the judges. Here is how the televised card played out, and below are the results for the non-televised fights.

Welterweight Championship bout:

Nick Diaz vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos

Santos did what we thought he would do. He was aggressive the whole fight, and showed a lot of heart. He started to do some real damage with some leg kicks to Nick’s front leg, but he couldn’t with stand the striking onslaught from Diaz. He did really well in the first round, and possibly stole it from Nick. In the second round, Nick was landing lots of punches and Cyborg went for a desperate inside leg trip, and pulled Nick to the floor. This was his undoing, as Nick immediately controlled his arm, and worked it until he could roll for the arm bar win. Nick Diaz defends his welterweight title.

Diaz defeats Santos via submission (armbar) at 4:50 of round 2 to retain the Strikeforce Welterweight Championship.

Middleweight Championship bout:

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza vs. Robbie Lawler

In the first round Lawler really brought the fight to Souza, and at one point even dropped him. A knee had Jacare on wobbly legs, but he was able to remain composed, and survive the round. The round ended with a takedown from Souza, but it was a clear 10-9 round for Lawler. The second round was all Jacare, and as soon as he got Lawler down on the mat we got to see his expert grappling ability on display. He landed some solid ground and pound, and passed Lawler’s guard almost effortlessly. In the third round, Jacare came out and locked up Lawler in a Thai clinch, and proceeded to land about a half dozen knees. He eventually pulled Lawler to the ground, and moved to Robbie’s back. He locked up the the body triangle, and with two minutes left in the round Jacare gets the tap with a rear naked choke. Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza defends his middleweight belt.

Souza defeated Lawler via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:00 of round 3 to retain the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship.

Heavyweight bout:

Herschel Walker vs. Scott Carson

Carson came out and immediately through a head kick at Walker, and it glanced against the Heisman Trophy winners head. This apparently frustrated Walker, as he proceeded to yell and chase down Carson while land some glancing punches. One of them dropped Carson to the mat, and Walker began to smother him and land punches from the back. Carson tried to roll for a knee bar that went no where, and Walker ended back up in his open guard. Walker let Carson back up, after standing up himself, and proceeded to fold Carson again against the fence. Carson was in a weird position against the fence, and was about to take even more damage, and the ref called the fight. Walker gets his second win.

Walker defeated Carson via TKO (strikes) at 3:13 of round 1

Light Heavyweight bout:

Roger Gracie vs. Trevor Prangley

Roger Gracie used his reach to really frustrate Prangley early in the round. He really looked like he had been spending a lot of time working on his striking, and was able to keep Trevor at the end of his punches. Gracie started throwing a few knees, and he was able to take Prangley down to the canvas. He worked to back mount, and Gracie worked the rear naked choke until the veteran had to tap.

Gracie defeated Prangley via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:19 of round 1
