Titan Fighting Championship 16: Sylvia vs. Wagner took place tonight at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. It was the first Titan event to make it on to an HDNet broadcast.

There was a real shocker in the main event. The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 cast off Abe Wagner, was able to land on Tim Sylvia early and finished him off. Wagner landed a leg or two right away, and Sylvia closed the distance. Wagner landed a solid hook to the temple of Sylvia that definitely rattled the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Wagner came forward and through straight punches as Sylvia retreated straight backward, and then Sylvia ran out of cage. Wagner landed three solid shots, and the 311 pound Sylvia slumped over on top of him. Abe Wagner picked up the TKO at 32 seconds.

An argument can be made for an early stoppage, but its a loose one at best. The way Sylvia fell forward, it really looked like he was out on his feet, but I’m sure Tim won’t see it this way.

In another first minute first round finish, Jason High was able to overwhelm Rudy “Bad News” Bears quickly. High started coming forward quickly on Bears, and even landed a few strikes. Bears put his head down to shoot and stop the momentum, but High snatched his neck with the guillotine choke. Jason jumped guard while securing the choke and Bears went out almost immediately. It even looked like Jason was surprised how fast he went out. Jason High wins via technical submission at 51 seconds in the first round.

Rich Climenti was putting the finishing touches on a 15 minute pounding, when his opponent Aaron Derrow clinched with him. I was saying to myself how big of a mistake it would be if he tried to pull guard in the closing minutes. He may have been trying to secure the arm of Climenti, but he jumped up and pulled guard, and he ended on the bottom with Rich in his open guard. In a really slick move, he was able to slide Climenti’s left arm across his body, and then throw his leg up to secure the triangle choke. It really looked like Rich was going to get out of it, but Derrow was able to finish the joke and get the biggest win of his career. Climenti never tapped, and was choked out cold for his troubles. Derrow picked up the technical submission with 85 seconds left in the fight.
