NHL hockey betting picks: Phoenix @ Edmonton
Added on Jan 05, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
The Phoenix Coyotes head north of the border to take on the Edmonton Oilers. Despite all of their off ice issues concerning the financial status of the team, the Coyotes have been a pleasant surprise this season and are right in the middle of the pack among Western Conference playoff teams in a third place tie with Colorado at 54 points. Edmonton is in the Western Conference cellar having lost 9 of their last 10 games. While we have no interest in playing the Coyotes as road favorites, there is a good sports betting option on the total:
Phoenix Coyotes at Edmonton Oilers

The Coyotes have been able to win this season with solid defense and good goaltending. They simply don’t have the offensive playmakers to win any other way, and that’s why they’ve been such a solid Under team. They’ve gone Over the total in only 10 of their games this year with 28 Under and 5 push. They’ve gone Over in only 5 of 20 games on the road (13 Under, 2 push) and have 11 Unders and 1 push in 18 games against teams with losing records.
Much of the reason for Edmonton’s losing run of late has been their inability to score goals. They’ve scored just 1 goal in five of their last six games and have scored 2 or fewer in 8 of 10. They haven’t been too bad on the other end of the ice, but you’re not going to win in the NHL if you score one goal a night. They’ve gone Under in six straight games, while the Coyotes have gone Under or pushed in five straight games.
Phoenix is starting to see a lot more 5 totals dealt after having mostly 5′ in the first half of the season, but the upside is that it gets us better value on the moneyline. Despite a series history that trends Over, we look for a low scoring game here.
Bet Phoenix/Edmonton Under 5 +115
