Flames saw their winning streak come to an end last time out at Chicago, but they’re still alive in their quest to make the playoffs. Calgary has three games remaining including this one–they’ll face Minnesota at home and Vancouver on the road to close out their season. San Jose will play their final two games after tonight at home against Vancouver and Phoenix. The good news for Calgary is that they match up well with San Jose. The Flames have won 2 of 3 over the Sharks this season, have won 3 of the last 5 at home and 4 of the last 6 overall.
San Jose’s offensive catalyst Joe Thornton has returned from a brief injury, but may have his ice time limited in advance of the playoffs. Flames have marginally better form at the moment, having won 6 of their last 10 while San Jose is 5-4-1 in the same stretch. Flames were playing with a lot of urgency before the Blackhawks debacle and know that their season is on the line. Colorado has lost 7 of 10 but have a game in hand over the Flames. Avs face a tough test at Vancouver tonight, so this is a good chance for Calgary to make up some ground.
