Sportsbooks will be featuring a crucial NHL playoffs game 7 on Tuesday as the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes settle their series. While its tough to get involved in terms of picking which side will prevail, we will take a NHL betting position on the total. The game goes at 6:05 PM Pacific from Phoenix and will be televised on Versus in the United States.

If you’ve been with us throughout the hockey season you know that we’ve used Phoenix quite a bit, and we’ve used them Under the total even more. They’re built to be an ‘Under’ team, and they win with solid defense and the exceptional goaltending of Ilya Bryzgalov. Surprisingly, however, this series has been relatively high scoring. Only one of the six games to date has gone Under the total with 3 games Over and 2 pushes. The head to head series has also been dominated by the Over. 9 of the last 14 meetings and 5 of the last 6 at Phoenix have gone Over the total.
A game seven presents an entirely different dynamic and both teams will be playing very conservative, positional hockey. Detroit has gone Under in 20 of 35 when revenging a loss, but more importantly–to evoke a sportscaster cliche–there’s no tomorrow here. Any mistakes could cost the teams not only this game, but their entire season. For that reason we’ll go Under the low total in what should be a very tightly contested contest decided by the goaltending.
