Neither the NY Rangers or Boston Bruins are torching nets offensively this year, with both ranking near the bottom of the league in scoring. The Bruins have started to play better defense lately, which has resulted in five wins in their last six games. The Rangers have lost three of four since a four game winning streak in late December. Neither team much of an offensive threat, with the Rangers #20 and the Bruins #26 in goals scored per game. Both teams play decent defense, ranking in the top half for opponent shots against. Bruins last played in the NHL Outdoor Classic at Fenway Park on New Year’s Day, while the Rangers lost on 1/2 at Carolina. Rangers have won four of five head to head at MSG, including the only meeting so far this year.
Obviously, we’re going to look to play ‘under’ the total here. Bruins have gone ‘under’ in 11 of 18 on the road. They’re currently ‘under’ in 4 straight, 6 of their last 7 and 9 of their last 11. The Rangers only have 16 ‘over’ verdicts in 41 games this year. They’ve played ‘under’ the total in 6 of 7 and 10 of their last 12. Head to head, 6 of the last 8 meetings and 4 of 5 at New York have gone ‘under’. The last two meetings including this seasons prior meeting have been 1-0 games. Reasonable price on the ‘under’ and based on recent form and series history that’s the way to play it here.
