A representative from the NHL told ESPNChicago.com that the shoot0out winning goal by Martin St. Louis. Was a good goal because it was a continuous motion. Many players, hockey fans, and even Chicago Head Coach Joel Quenneville felt that St. Louis came to complete stop with the puck.
Rule 24.2 covering penalty shots and shootout attempts states “the puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete.” The rule itself allows for spin moves which technically moves the the puck backwards. The people who object to the goal are fine with the rule, but they feel St. Louis stopped the puck AFTER the spin move.
Chicago Goalie Corey Crawford said there is no use arguing now because the NHL feels they made the right decision. He said “It was pretty close. It looked like maybe he stopped for a second and then kept going. They think they made the right decision so we just have to live with it.”
Judge for yourself, but to me it looks like he stops when he goes backhand-forehand.
In other Chicago Blackhawks news, the team and the Stanley Cup were welcomed to the White House today where they met with President Obama. Obama was given a Blackhawks #44 jersey(He is the 44th President,) a replica of the Stanley Cup, and a Replica of the championship ring. Check out the video from ESPN.com below.
The Hawks also told the media that Dave Bolland unlikely to play this Sunday after he took a hit on Sunday night. He left the game after the hit and didn’t return. Lightening Pavel Kubina was penalized for the hit during the game, but the NHL has since suspended him for 3 games.
Coach Quenneville said he didn’t like the call, or the hit. He said “I wasn’t happy with the hit,” coach Joel Quenneville said after practice Friday. “We [didn't] get any benefit out of it. We lose a player, we don’t get a power play off of it. It was a dangerous hit. I wasn’t happy with the hit at all.” Quenneville concluded “I would say when you look at it, it’s probably exactly the type of hit they don’t want in the game.”
