Free NFL Picks for Monday Night Football Betting – Giants @ Redskins
Added on Dec 21, 2009 by Jack Thurman in
A few years ago, tonight’s Monday Night Football game would have been a marquee matchup as NFC East foes Washington and the New York Giants tee it up. Instead we’ve got a home team very likely with a ‘lame duck’ coach against a New York Giants team that had much higher expectations coming into this season. Still, we think there’s a decent wagering position to take on the game.
New York Giants at Washington Redskins

The Giants dwindling playoff hopes took a hit this weekend with both of the teams ahead of them in the division winning, and now they face a Redskins team that has nothing to play for but has shown a lot of resolve in the past few weeks. Washington has won only two of their L6 games straight up, but have been on a tear against the pointspread covering five straight games. Their offense has even shown signs of life, with playcaller Sherm Lewis actually making a difference. QB Jason Campbell, in particular, has been the beneficiary of Lewis’ schemes with five touchdowns and only one interception in the past two games.
New York, on the other hand, has been in a downward spiral ever since their 5-0 SU/ATS start to the season. Eli Manning has been erratic, the Giants defense–particularly in the secondary–has been porous and they look nothing like a playoff team, let alone a Superbowl contender. Since the hot start to the season the Giants are a woeful 2-6 SU/1-7 against the number. They’ve played a tough schedule, but as their pointspread performance reflects they’ve not even been particularly competitive in most games.
Once upon a time, the Monday Night Football home underdog was a handicapper’s dream. This hasn’t been the case for a number of years, but this looks to be a spot where you’ve got a very live underdog that is actually starting to play better against a team collapsing under the weight of lofty expectations. The Redskins would love nothing more than to put the final nail in the coffin of the Giants’ season, and as unlikely as it may have seemed in September are actually the side in better form at this point. Some interest also in going over the total which doesn’t accurately reflect the current realities for these teams. Washington has gone ‘over’ in six of their last seven as their offense rounds into form, and shouldn’t have much trouble against a banged up and underachieving Giants’ defense. Snowstorms of this weekend shouldn’t be a factor with clear skies in the forecast for gametime.
