It seems everything I have been writing lately is about skaters getting brained into the boards, or someone getting a 5 game suspension for a blind side elbow. Don’t get me wrong, we are witnessing some great hockey, and some great moments this season, but with sponsor threats and cities launching puck investigations…I’m changing it up today. I’m going to do a video round up, but more on the lighter side…

I am a die hard Blackhawks fan, and I was bred young to say the words Detroit Sucks almost anytime I saw the colors red and white. I was surprised when I went to the Joe Louis Arena how great the Redwings fans were, and incidentally how moronic Hawks fans can be (Really, it was eye opening.) Don’t get me wrong, I bleed red and black, but if you check out any Chicago sporting event you might notice the trend as well. Even though my boys lost the game that night, the circle of fans around us who we befriended couldn’t have been friendlier. So it was no shock when I saw this awesome moment in the NHL video player, because the Redwings just “get it” better then most cities.

I’m not apologizing for my Detroit Sucks chanting from my youth, I didn’t know any better, but I am going to think twice about it after watching this video. Watch as a youngster takes an extra lap in front of a packed house at the Joe, and notice how even stopped to “mean mug” the Cannucks bench as he skated by (Ok, I’m kiddng, but it is funny to think.) As much as I like a solid hit, and a beautiful goal, moments like this are why I like puck. The wings lost to Vancouver 2-1, but this game will be a win for this guy for a long time!

The San Jose Sharks played the Calgary Flames last night, and let me set this up for you. The Flames skate the puck right up the center ice I think its Alex Tanguay who passes it to Oli Jokinen, and Oli Shoves it out to Jarome Iginla for the one-timer. Jonathon Quick makes the initial save for the Sharks, but momentum carries the puck in and it bounces on the ice headed straight for an open goal. Then it gets weird. The puck looks to take a right turn, and head clear away from the goal mouth. You will notice on the replay that the puck is bouncing, and the overhead replay doesn’t show that very well. Here it is in real time, The Magical Puck:

You get a better idea of the movement of the puck from this angle, but it is still real strange. Here is the frame by frame video the NHL released:
