Jonathan Quick responded nicely against the Red Wings after a questionable performance the last time out. Quick made 51, and notched his 12th NHL Shutout, and defenseman Drew Doughty had three assists in the Los Angeles Kings’ 5-0 victory over the Red Wings on Monday night. This would be the fourth consecutive time the Kings beat the Redwings, and they have now won 4 out of 5 so far this season. Anze Kopitar had two goals, and Wayne Simmonds, Oscar Moller and Jack Johnson also scored for Los Angeles.

Quick Struggled in 3-2 loss against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, and he admits he was trying to put some distance between himself and that game He said “I was looking to get back out and put that game behind me as fast as possible.” Quick had an unbelievable second period where he stopped 26 shots, but he was fast to put the attention back on his team. “It’s great and all to get all of those saves but at the end of the day, the two points is all that matters.” This was the first time Red Wings were shut out since January, in a game where they lost 6-0 the Islanders.

Even Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard, who had 21 saves of his own, thought highly of how well Quick played. He said in the locker room, “Hats off to Quickie. He played a hell of a game. He stole that one. He was in a zone. There’s nothing you can do about it. He was stopping everything. I think we could have went all night and he probably still would have gave up zero. He was just in one of those zones.”

Kings Coach Terry Murray said after the game it was Quick who picked up the slack for the rest of the team. He praised him after the game, “Quick was excellent, especially in the second period when we took the two penalties both by defenseman Alec Martinez. They threw a lot of rubber at him. We couldn’t get it out and we couldn’t win a faceoff.” Drew Doughty, who had 3 assists, agreed and boasted about his goalie. He said “Quicker was obviously unbelievable. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a game where the goalie stood on his head like that.”

Quick’s best save of the game came when he shot across the net to get his paddle in front of Tomas Holmstrom’s rebound shot during Detroit’s first power play a little over 7:30 into the second period. Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom really felt like that one was going in. He said later “Homer looked like he was going to score on a rebound, but he somehow came across and made a great save.

The Detroit Red Wings (19-7-3,41pts), who are 1st in Central Division will face St. Louis (14-9-5, 33pts) at home on Wednesday night. The LA Kings (17-10-1,35pts), who are 3rd in Pacific Division, will face St. Louis the following day.
