While the soccer betting world is focused on the World Cup, we’ll look to the MLS games on the board at sportsbooks for a good value opportunity.  After a two week break for the World Cup, the United States’ top professional soccer league resumed play last night and we’ll look at what is likely the best game of the weekend as league leading Los Angeles heads north of the border for a game against Toronto.

The LA Galaxy have been dominant all season long in the MLS, with a potent offense and a stingy defense.  They’ve lost only once this year and have an astounding +18 goal differential equally divided at +9 home and away.  Their only loss so far this year came the week before the World Cup break on the road against Real Salt Lake–who may have the toughest home venue in the MLS.  Aside from that, their road record is exceptional with only 1 draw and that loss against 5 wins.  Toronto hasn’t been much on the road with only 1 win against 4 losses and a draw but are very good at home.  They’re undefeated at BMO Field with 4 wins and a draw on the year.

Keep in mind that the bulk of the Galaxy offense is now playing for the US World Cup team in South Africa including the league’s top assist man Landon Donovan and the MLS #1 goal scorer Edson Buddle.  The Galaxy exploded for four goals against Houston on June 5, but with the exception of outburst they’ve scored 3 goals in 3 games with their best offensive weapons out of action.  The listless 0-0 draw between Real Salt Lake and San Jose yesterday could have set a tone for the first games ‘back to work’ in the MLS, and with both teams looking to win with defense we see this being a low scoring draw.
