Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Week 1: Defense

#1 Chicago Bears (vs. Detroit Lions)

Last season the Chicago Bears defense suffered a huge blow in Week 1 by losing arguably their best defensive player in linebacker Brian Urlacher (wrist), but this year they will have Urlacher back healthy and playing alongside perennial Pro Bowler Julius Peppers.

With that being said Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions could be in for a long day in Week 1.

#2 San Francisco 49ers (@ Seattle Seahawks)

The New York Jets and the Baltimore Ravens get a lot of credit for being arguably the two best defenses in the league, but the San Francisco 49ers may challenge these two great defenses this season.

Week 1 will most likely be a big day for the 49ers defense as they will go up against Matt Hasselback and the lowly Seahawks offense.

#3 Dallas Cowboys (@ Washington Redskins)

Last season the Dallas Cowboys were finally able to win their first playoff game in quite a long time, but even though Tony Romo always seems to be the player that gets the attention, the Dallas defense was arguably one of the main reasons for their success.

The Washington Redskins will head into Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys without Donovan McNabb under center and the Dallas Cowboys defense could have a big day with Rex Grossman taking the snaps.

#4 San Diego Chargers (@ Kansas City Chiefs)

The Chargers offense tends to be what makes headlines in San Diego, but their defense is arguably just as good and I believe they will prove that fact in Week 1 against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs.

#5 Oakland Raiders (@ Tennessee Titans)

A lot of people think that the Oakland Raiders could make the playoffs this season as they have made some considerable upgrades on both sides of the football during the offseason, but the one move that everyone is talking about is adding quarterback Jason Campbell into the mix.

Even though Campbell makes the Raiders that much better, the defense will be what steals the show this season as they could end up being amongst the best in the league.
