More NBA basketball betting for Friday as the Los Angeles Clippers hit the road to take on the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers.  Clippers haven’t been a very good road team this season with a 4-18 record, and every knows now about the struggles of the Cavs in their first year without LeBron James.  Cavs are 8-45 on the year and have lost 26 straight games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a perfect example of what happens when the old mantra “It could be worse” actually comes to pass.  The Cavs were already in for a long season after LeBron James bolted for Miami but “it got worse” when the team suffered a horrific run of injuries.  The Cavs may not be as bad as their record suggests, but they’re pretty bad.  They do get some good news here as Mo Williams will return to action tonight, but that’s like a free buffet on the Titanic–it’s nice, but it won’t help much.

Cleveland is 6-3-2 ATS in their last 11 games and we’re of the opinion that they’re going to be a good team to play *on* down the stretch as they get generous pointspreads, opponents that are looking past them and most importantly get some healthy bodies back in the lineup.  This is a bad spot for them, however, as they’ve been especially awful against the Western Conference this season.  Cavs are 1-19 SU/5-14-1 ATS against the West and at this point they’re a team that no one will ‘look past’ because no one wants to be the team that the Cavs finally beat.  The Clippers are young and sometimes undisciplined but brutally talented and having been a laughing stock franchise for so many years they’ll not want to add ‘lost to the Cavs’ to their dubious resume.  Clippers struggle against teams that play solid defense but against ones that don’t they can use their sick athleticism and talent to compete–they’re 16-8 ATS this year against teams allowing more than 99+ points per game.  Case in point–their road win at New York last time out.  Similar situation here defensively, but the Cavs don’t have the offensive game that the Knicks do.  We’ll lay the -4 at BetUS with the Clippers who have turned a profit as favorites this year and look for the Cavs miserable season to continue.  And with the Cavs so weak inside look for some downright obscene dunks from Blake Griffin.
