Monday night NBA action takes us to Texas for a matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and Dallas Mavericks.  The Bucks were one of the surprise teams in the NBA but have limped to a 9-13 record so far this season.  Dallas is playing excellent basketball with a 19-4 record but that’s only good enough for second place in the Southwest Division behind the 20-3 San Antonio Spurs.

The Mavs got a scare from the Utah Jazz in their last game before hanging on for a win/cover despite a furious second half comeback by the visitor.  We’re not sure the Bucks are capable of mounting that sort of effort should they get down by double digits.  Milwaukee’s biggest issue this season has been the lack of productivity from their most significant free agent acquisitions Drew Gooden and John Salmons.  Both haven’t really fit into the mix yet and Gooden will be out for this game which makes a bad tactical matchup for Milwaukee even worse.  Dirk Nowitzki is having an exceptional season–he’s not only a solid inside player but so good away from the basket that he’s virtually impossible for most big men to guard.  Gooden’s absence makes this already advantageous matchup for Dallas all the more overwhelming.

Dallas has been an awful home favorite in recent years but may have that monkey off their back this season.  At any rate, hard to complain about anything the team is doing either SU or ATS at the moment.  Mavs have won 12 straight games SU going 9-3 against the spread.  Bucks, meanwhile, have only covered 3 of their last 13 games.  Possible ‘lookahead’ spot for Mavs with a pair of Western Conference matchups against Portland and Phoenix later in the week but given the teams’ respective form of late and the Dallas matchup advantage in the frontcourt we’ll take a shot on the home team.

Bet Dallas Mavericks -8′ over Milwaukee Bucks
