Tuesday NBA action includes a matchup between the bottom two teams in the Atlantic Division as the Philadelphia 76ers head to the Izod Center to play the New Jersey Nets.  Avery Johnson is doing good work with the Nets–they’ve still got plenty of holes to fill  but have been much more competitive this season.  Philadelphia has played reasonably well of late but is still a very underachieving team.

Nets are currently mired in a 7 game losing streak and have lost 9 of their last 10, but this is a good chance for them to get one in the ‘win’ column.  New Jersey has been dealing with some injuries and has faced a brutal schedule over the past couple of weeks.  Sixers won and covered easily at home on November 27, but that’s not surprising given Philadelphia’s pronounced home/away tendencies.  Philly only 5-5 SU in their last 10 games but are currently on a 10-1 ATS run.

Even if we didn’t like the effort that the Nets put forth on most nights, there’s no way we could back Philadelphia as a road favorite.  The Sixers are 1-10 SU on the road and although they are 6-4 ATS this is their first spot as an away favorite this season.  Philadelphia only 5-7 SU/ATS in that role since 2008.  Even during the Nets horrible seasons of the past few years they’ve been very competitive against the Sixers posting a 7-2 ATS record in the series including a perfect 4-0 ATS mark at home.  Against a poor traveling opponent we look for the Nets to end their losing streak and cash our tickets with a SU victory.
