Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ tight end Jerramy Stevens won’t play against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday following his arrest Saturday night on multiple drug charges.  He was arrested just after 7 PM Eastern Saturday night by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies and released early this morning after posting $4,500 bond.   He was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a Sherrif’s Department spokesperson, Stevens was pulled over because of the ‘boomin’ system’ in his Ford pick’em up truck.  Officers smelled ‘da chronic’ in the cab of the truck and lo and behold found 38 grams, or 1 1/3 ounce of marijuana.  Stevens has a couple of DUI related arrests on his rap sheet, the most recent in 2007.  Now, no one really thinks that Stevens was looking to sell the drugs–he’s probably just a recreational pothead and had enough weight on him that the ‘intent to sell’ charge was automatically assessed.

The Bucs released this statement in response to the arrest:

“We’re deeply disappointed by this news. We take such matters seriously. Obviously, Jerramy Stevens will not be participating today. We will address this matter with the seriousness it deserves, but in the meantime, we’re focused on the Rams game.”

Stevens has become a non factor in the Bucs’ offense over the past year and a half.  So far this year he’s got three receptions for 43 yards.
