The San Francisco 49ers came into this NFL regular season as the favorites to come out on top in the NFC West division as they seemed to have all the right pieces to the puzzle in order to contend with some of the best teams in the NFC Conference, but unfortunately things have gone they way head coach Mike Singletary and company had anticipated and as a result they are sporting a 4-7 record heading into Week 13.

Even though they are just a game back from the division-leading St. Louis Rams in the NFC West, the San Francisco 49ers suffered a major blow by losing perennial Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore to a season-ending hip injury on Monday Night Football in the win over the division rival Arizona Cardinals.

Normally this would be a devastating blow to a team that desperately depending on their ground game to get their offense going and it may be ultimately what ends the San Francisco 49ers chances of being playoff bound, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel as they were able to sign veteran running back Brian Westbrook in the offseason in case something like this were to happen as Frank Gore has been known to be a bit injury prone.

After Gore went down against the Cardinals on Monday night, Westbrook came in an played much better than anticipated as he rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown. Even though Westbrook himself has been labeled as injury prone at times during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and contemplated retirement last season due to multiple concussions, he is a viable backup running back for the San Francisco 49ers and a perfect replacement for Frank Gore owners.

So if you had Frank Gore and heard the bad news or are in desperate need of a running back heading into your fantasy football league’s playoffs, Brian Westbrook is the perfect addition as he could give you 10 points every single week from here on out.
