Matthew-Stafford-Lions

Week 7 of the 2011 NFL season was a veritable bloodbath as several big name players went down with potentially significant injuries. As the weeks pass, more and more teams are being forced to reach further down the depth chart in order to field a lineup of healthy bodies. Here’s a breakdown of the sprains and tears.

Matthew Stafford (Lions) – On his final throw of the Lions loss to Atlanta, Stafford got his right ankle rolled. He limped off the field in obvious pain. The team isn’t revealing the exact details of the injury until an MRI is performed. The oft hobbled quarterback has yet to complete a full season.

Darren McFadden (Raiders) – Exited in the first quarter with what’s being called a sprained foot. He didn’t return and will be reevaluated later today. Oakland is on bye in Week 8.

Earnest Graham (Bucs) – The veteran back’s season is finished after suffering a torn Achilles. With LeGarrette Blount already sidelined with a bad knee, Tampa is quickly running out of runners. The Bucs are also on a bye this week.

Beanie Wells (Cardinals) – A sprained knee ended Wells’ day early. No word yet on how much time he’ll miss, but he doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to durability.

Tim Hightower (Redskins) – Unconfirmed rumors say Hightower suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. An MRI will determine the severity.

Santana Moss (Redskins) – Moss broke a bone in his left hand and could be out for a month. No official timetable has been set for his return.

Willis McGahee (Broncos) – Denver’s leading rusher fractured a hand, souring the team’s comeback victory at Miami. Head coach John Fox was unsure how long McGahee would be out.

Percy Harvin (Vikings) – The rib injury that has been bothering Harvin for weeks flared up on Sunday. He left after catching two passes for 15 yards.

Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks) – Lynch didn’t even make it through pregame warmups with an ailing back. The Seahawks could’ve used him after gaining a pathetic 137 yards of offense in a 6-3 loss to Cleveland.

Hines Ward (Steelers) – A sprained ankle forced Ward from Sunday’s win at Arizona. His availability for Week 8 is unknown.

LaDainian Tomlinson (Jets) – LT started the game versus his ex-team, but sat out the second half with flu-like symptoms.

Daniel Manning (Texans) – The much improved Texans defense may have lost another key member for the rest of the season after Manning fractured a tibia.

Mark Ingram (Saints) – X-rays were negative on his bruised right heel. He will be monitored throughout the week.

Kevin Boss (Raiders) – The tight end’s nightmarish season got worse after suffering a concussion in the Raiders 28-0 loss to Kansas City.
